A finished Beach Hut #1 - Diane Machin

Hi dear blogger friends!
Hope you are all basking in the sun & enjoying the hot weather!!
Here, I am all geared up for a stitchy afternoon with a tennis Wimbledon final & F1 race :)

I'm back again with my first little beach hut
- Designed by Diane Machin & available in the Cross Stitch Crazy mag, June issue -

A few of you told me to be more adventurous with my finishes
So, I've listened to you dear friends!
And here is my first... and last little hut...

I suppose it doesn't look too bad from the front!
I am so not happy with this...
The fabric should have joined at the top & unfortunately mine joined at one side
My mistake, but I couldn't finish it with the felt, like shown in the mag.
So, I've used some ribbon with printed bunting & decided to have it on each side
So this helped to hide the joined fabric with ladder stitch
The back is a plain piece of aida
Because there was no stitching on this piece, when coming to sew I had no reference points so
I'm pretty sure the hut is slightly wider at the back than it is at the front!
A real Tardis :D
I've found out I have a LOT to learn when using my sewing machine
and maybe not to be as fussy with my finishes...

Other remaining 3 huts will definitely be framed :P

Happy stitching!
Mii x

  12. Mii,
I love your finish. You did a great job and made it your own. I also love the trim on the side. I agree with Carol. You are a brave person for giving it a try. I would never even had attempted it. It is a cute hut. Give yourself a great big pat on the back for a job well done!

I saw one of the designs finished as a needlebook on Diane Machin's Facebook page.
I have tracked down the magazine and am looking forward to stitching one or two of them.

  23. I really like the bunting ribbon you have used on it. The whole thing looks great. I used to be very critical about my own sewing machine skills, now I just accept that that my sewing will never be perfect but does look better each time.

    1. Thank you! You're so right too!
I'm just a perfectionist, it runs in the family! :D
It's just that I alway compare my work to others or what you can find in the shop, and I always feel I could do so much better... As you say, slowly my skills will improve :)

  27. Props to you for being more adventurous! :D Well done sweetie, we need to take a risk! If we don't try, we will never learn how to do better :) Hands up to you :D

I saw your comment on my blog, I know you weren't a follower by that time ;)
I made mine with the example given on th magazine, an issue from Cross Stitcher mag. I can't say the issue but I bet I mentioned it on my post. I don't know about this issue of CS crazy but on CStitcher it had a nice tutorial, I can send it to you if you'd like, just let me know ;)

Don't feel bad!! You did a great work! I know that's not an easy project :p Try again, next time you'll know better, each new hut (and with each new sewing project) you'll learn :)
I learned to sew by myself, I'm not an expert (far from that!! hehehe) but I try and try and do it again.. eventually we get there ;) heheheh

    1. Thanks for your comment Nia!!! I've also followed the instructions on the magazine but I guess the girls finishing the projects have years of practice!!! :D
It's just so dunting to finish something different because having spent hours stitching the piece, I really don't want to mess it up when doing the sewing bit :D
But I guess you're right, if we don't try, we won't get better...
I'm cheered up a bit thanks to all the lovely comments I had. I must be too strict with myself :P
Have a lovely sunny day xox

  29. ho no no no, don't say it's not beautiful sweetie =)
this little hut is very pretty ! really
and that's so great you took the risk !
    first can't be perfect =)
but it can be lovely and this first is =D
fabric and ribbon are matching perfectly...and the back...we don't care, it's against the door =D
you can be proud of your first hut, even if you had in mind another idea of it...
    I love it
can't wait to see the others (even framed, OK I can understand you =D)
    big hugs

    1. LOL!! You're so sweet!!! :)
Believe me that little tiny hut would not hold a door opened, it's way to small!!!
      It's probably measuring 10cm high :D
You guys have been so kind with all your positive feedback but the next ones are really going to be framed!!
As I explained to Nia, the problem with being "adventurous" on the finishes is too dunting. You spend hours stitching these projects, you don't want to mess them up in seconds by being experimental with the sewing machine :D I'm sure you know exactly what I mean!
Have a lovely summery sunny day (sunshine is out here in UK, woohoo!!!)

    2. ho yes I exactly know what you mean =)
I had so much troubles with my last zip (the butterfly for June) that it ended as a pouch =D
I hope you'll find frames looking like beach huts =)
big sunny hugs (summer is here finally !!)
