Taste the rainbow!

Hello Peeps!

Look what has arrived through my letterbox last week!
A wonderful surprise from Steph, Show & Tell

OoO

See, I have been admiring her recent rainbow crochet blanket.
It was my plan to learn to crochet to make a stripe blanket...

Knowing my sister was pregnant,
she's decided to use the leftover and made another blanket for Frenchie Baby Girl.

This is so so sweet!

Now I wish I could keep it but
it will be passed on to its new home soon.

There were a few goodies too,
which included a cute Snoopy mini pillow.

I love it! It has now found its place on my stash shelf :)

And fabric, mini buttons & Gorjuss ribbon!!!
Ooh, I love it all.

Thank you so much Steph for this unexpected surprise.
I can assure you your gifts will be treasured.

Now as for my crochet learning...

Well, I really wanted to make a granny stripe baby blanket using DMC Natura Cotton.
I found the most fabulous free tutorial from Maybe Matilda here

Being cleaver, I purchased one of them magazines that comes with wool, hook & needles.
I followed their instructions & was able to make:
Slip knot, chain stitch, single crochet & double crochet!

Not bad!!!
And then it all went horribly wrong.
No matter how much reading, looking & trying I was lost & confused :(

It made me realised that I will never be able to make this wonderful little blanket.

Crochet is not easy & my congratulations to all of you who can actually make beautiful pieces.
I will stick to my stitching SIGH but at least I gave it a go.

Have a stitch-crazy (or crochet-crazy) weekend!
Toodles,
Mii

  7. What a lovely surprise gift !! Cute blanket:)
Crochet is not that difficult, in fact I find finishing a cross stitch into something as very difficult.
Try crochet video tutorials than learning from a book. Videos will be more detailed and it is easy to find which part is going wrong.

Don't give up on the crochet....I learned by watching youtube videos. I just watched them a few times, then crocheted along with them, stopping and starting as I was so slow. I started off with a basic granny square which is perfect for baby blankets. You can do it!!!! :)

When I first started crocheting I thought there was not a hope in the world that I would ever get the hang of it! But look at what you did do! Single and double crochet! For a first try that is pretty awesome! I made chains! lol For a long long time I felt ridiculously happy that I could make chains, but once you get the hang of it there is no turning back. And I agree with Kate, video tutorials are very helpful. Lots of love XOX

Maybe you started with a too dificult pattern for a beginner.
Crochetting is so nice, maybe you should give it a second try in a couple of weeks, when your frustration is gone ;-) Have a nice sunday!

I wouldn't give up on crocheting yet. Maybe you know a friend who lives near you who could help you or you would find a class somewhere that you could attend. I learn new crafts best when I attend a class and there's a teacher present who shows everything.
