Ladybug & Daisy - Ajisai Designs

Hello lovely Peeps,

In between my small monthly projects & SAL,
I do try to work on various different designs.

I thought it was about time I show you some of my WIPs.
I have been especially focusing on 2 main projects.

The first one being this cutie!

Ladybug & Daisy
by Ajisai Designs

I initially started this beautiful blackwork and cross stitch design on the 4 Jan 2016
for my first and only participation to the Crazy January Challenge.

This had sadly been left untouched ever since.

Model is stitched on 16 count Aida fabric from Sew It All, off white colour
Blackwork: 1 over 1 using black DMC thread
Cross stitch: 2 over 1 using DMC threads

I know blackwork is to be worked on Evenweave fabric but had none handy at the time...

This is how it looked back in Jan 2016

I am pleased to say that things have changed a bit!
I have been slowly adding a few crosses there & there
and this is how it looks now.

Granted, there is still a lot left to do but I have made progress,
which in my book, is the most important!

Let's hope it won't be another year before I decide to work on it again.

I'll be back soon with another WIP update, stay tuned!

Toodles,
Mii

I find the cross stitch ladybug to be the hardest :) Unfortunately the chart is coloured and has no symbols, which makes it a pain to work out which red colour to use. I'll get there!
The blackwork is fun but definitely require concentration.

  6. Adorable project. I love blackwork but it can take a bit more focus to get the true reversing stitch that I find mine sit neglected in favor of other projects as well.

    1. Lol, that is exactly what's been happening with mine.
It does require focus and after a while I just have to put it down :)

It is a tiring project to be working on, so I have to be in the right mood for it.

I agree, it is a difficult project to be working on. More focus is definitely needed compared to a regular cross stitch project. That is why my progress are slow...

Blackwork is a nice change from cross stitch but requires much more focus, hence my slow progress!

  23. Wow Mii such a beautiful project you have chosen. I read your comment above that the chart doesn't have symbols for cross stitch, so are the squares filled with colors? That must be so confusing and unusual.

    1. Yes, this is correct Mini.
      No symbols, just colours :)
Can be frustrating when there are various hues of red and you want it to be perfect!!
Thankfully the cross stitch is only on the ladybug, so I should be fine if I take it one cross at a time...

  27. It's gorgeous - I love those mixed cross stitch/blackwork designs! The blackwork kit I'm working on is on aida as well, so it's not that uncommon I guess.

    1. I read an article about it and apparently back in time, linen had to be the fabric used for blackwork... I am not fussed really but believe it would definitely look nicer on linen than on Aida.

I have more big-ish WIPs that need a bit of TLC, so will try to come up with a rotation of some sort, so that I can make progress on each of them... Eventually will have a finish in the future!

  30. Beautiful! I agree it looks just as good on aida as it would on evenweave. It may be hard to stitch but it will be worth all the effort.
